Patricia Chervenak, Preschool Director
Greetings from Mrs. Patricia Chervenak. I have been
with Shepherd of the Hills Preschool since it began in 1997.
It is very rewarding to help nurture so many wonderful children
and families on their faith and learning journey. I
have taught classes, subbed for teachers, and aides.
I am currently the Preschool Director. I graduated from
the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN with a B.S. in Elementary
Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education.
I currently hold a MN teaching license in Elementary Education
(1-6), Kindergarten, and Early Childhood. I've taught
both preschool and Kindergarten for 20+ years.
I live in St. Paul with my husband and 2 boys. I enjoy
being outdoors camping, gardening, digging in the sand, and
cheering on my boys at the baseball field. My favorite
color is green. My favorite children's book is Mike
Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, by Virginia Lee Burton.
It shows determination, care, and problem solving skills!
Sara McMahon, Adventure Day Teacher
I have been at SOH Preschool since 2005. I graduated
from St. Cloud State University with a B.S. in Child and
Family Studies. I have a Minnesota teaching license
in Early Childhood Education for birth-third grade.
I am a lefty that enjoys writing poetry, doing word searches,
playing sports and going to parks. I live in St. Paul
with my family. My favorite children's book is The Crayon
Box That Talked by Shane DeRolfe. It has a great
message about accepting everyone and using teamwork.
My favorite color is yellow!
Cindy Hoff, Aide
I have had the pleasure, starting in 2001, to work here
at Shepherd of the Hills Preschool as an aide in both the
3 year old and 4 year old classes. Aside from the duties
to prepare crafts and keep the environment safe and clean,
my favorite time is with the children hearing all their wonderful
ideas. Prior to coming here I worked as a lunchroom
cashier in an elementary school. Many of the students
said lunch was their favorite subject! As a volunteer
I taught 3 year olds in Sunday School for 20 years which is
where my passion lies. My husband and I have been living
in New Brighton for 30 years and have two grown daughters
who are successful in their fields. I enjoy camping,
walking, and cross-stitching. Reading with our
girls was a favorite time and we wore out the pages of The
Monster At The End Of This Book, Starring Lovable, Furry Old
Grover, by Jon Stone. My favorite colors are red
and purple!
Laura Hughes, Aide
Since 2002 I have been a Teacher's aide at Shepherd of
the Hills Preschool. I have been lucky to work with many children.
I have helped in the school library, taught Sunday school,
and tutored handwriting and reading. My passion is Girl
Scouts. I have been involved with Scouting for many
years. My husband Joe and I live in Shoreview with our
two daughters, Samantha and Madison. Our family enjoys
biking, playing soccer, quilting and having game night.
One of my favorite children's book is Five Little Ducklings.
My favorite color is red.
Suzanne Gregg, Teacher
I have been with Shepherd of the Hills Preschool since
2003. I came to Shepherd with 24 years of teaching experience.
I plan the daily curriculum, hold parent/teacher conferences
and LOVE the children in my care. I live in Roseville
with my husband and 2 sons. I enjoy crafts, gardening
and participating in my children's activities. My favorite
children's book is: The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe
Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear. I love the illustrations
and the open-ended pages. My favorite color is red.
Jilene Packer, Teacher
I am so excited to be teaching here at Shepherd of the Hills Preschool. I have been working at Shepherd of the Hills for a year and a half as the Early Childhood Minister. I have been blessed with an AMAZING opportunity to join the preschool staff. I am currently attending St. Catherine University majoring in Health and Physical Education with a K-12 license. I have also spent a lot of time working with kids at the YMCA preschool and school age programs in the Mounds View school district. In my free time you can find me running, exercising at the YMCA, or playing outside. I am a huge Twins Baseball and Wild Hockey fan! My favorite color is blue. My favorite children’s book is I Knew You Could by Craig Dorfman.
Janet Etten, Substitute Teacher
Shepherd of the Hills first became part of my life when my two daughters began preschool here several years ago. I have enjoyed all the teachers throughout my girls' preschool years. It is an honor to now have the opportunity of teaching here at SOH.
I was a teacher for 11 years at St. Odilia School in Shoreview.
I left my job to stay at home with our girls. Now that they
are both in school full time, I am now a substitute teacher
back at St. Odilia's 2-3 days per week. I really enjoy working
with children of all ages. I was fortunate enough to be
able to be a long term sub in third grade a few years ago
and again in first grade last year for a teacher on maternity
leave. It is so rewarding to see a child's face light up
when they understand a new concept.
My educational background includes a B.S. in Elementary
Education from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
as well as numerous continuing education classes.
I live in Roseville with my husband and 7 and 9 year old
daughters. I enjoy reading, sewing and card making. My favorite
color is green and my favorite children's book is Time for
Bed by Mem Fox. I read it every night for at least two years
and I still love it!
